Timeless Reflections

People often ask what inspires me to create a particular art piece. Oftentimes, my inspiration comes from life experiences. Sometimes, it can even be simply how a light source reflects on an object or how a cooling breeze sweeps across one’s face. When I am engrossed in the creative process, whether it’s photography or other art forms, all my senses are acutely heightened.

Painting - Timeless Reflections

My creative process with this particular painting was inspired by my surroundings. I was meandering down a path at The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and stumbled upon this breath-taking scene. This grand flowering hardwood gracefully bowing its branches as if curtsying to the reflections of light dancing across the water. I immediately thought of Monet and wondered how he would have reacted to this tranquil scene. Instantly, in my mind’s eye, I could see vibrant colored brush strokes dancing across my canvas.

Original Photographs

Once home, I began the painting process and soon realized something was still missing. While envisioning the scene, I had recalled a much more genteel time when leisure was a well-practiced art. Several years earlier, I had photographed two sisters in period clothing, enjoying a leisurely afternoon on a boat. They would provide my missing piece!

This painting has received must recognition in competitions at state, regional and international levels.

Sam Gray - Hey thanks Tom. Feelings are mutual, and yes I give Him the credit. He makes all things beautiful in His time. I go as far as I can go then as I let go He inspires me to the completion of the art piece.
